today we watched a TED talk about super conductors which when a super conductor is put together with a magnetic strip it causes the super conductor to start "levitating". I think this is intresting because this technology could be use for so many things like for example you could have cars that do not need wheels because they don't touch the ground. there is a downside to the superconductors levitating effect which is that it appears that the superconductor needs to constantly be cold because in the demonstration boaz almog (the demonstrator) had to put the superconductor in a cup of liquid nitrogen after a few seconds of letting the superconductor levitate. all in all i think the technology is cool and will be applyed to everyday tasks in the future.
Today we watched another episode of The Twilight Zone this one was called its a good life and it was about a monster that took the form of a child that had the ability wish whatever he wanted or disliked into existance. the town the child lived in was isolated from the rest of the world and anything the child did not like he destroyed some of the things he wished away and or destroyed were people and animals he did not like also he disabled all automobiles and any means of electricity. the people living in the town with the child were forced to think only good thoughts about the child and everything he did of face the risk of being wished away. what in learned from this episode was that monsters and or aliens do not always look like little green men or big hairy beasts with big teeth, they can also look and act like humans. the episode also had the three plus one elements of science fiction which are fantastic assumption which is that a monster exist's in this world, the intelluctual excitment is that some where there could be a person and or monster we are unaware of that has unuiqe abilities to wish things away or into existansce, the ambigious ending happens when the child has wished away the only man that was opposed to what the child was doing and the child has complete control of what the towns people do and think. Today we watched a ted talk about suspended animation which is the process of de-animating and looking dead and then wake up unharmed. Some plants and animals use suspended animation to stay alive in cold weather some examples are plants and sea monkeys. I think the idea of putting humans in suspended animation is cool because the ability to save lives by essentialy freezing someone so they have a chance to get the medical care they need to continue living. The other cool aspect of putting someone into suspended animation is that when the person is reanimated there is no side affect done to harm them.
this relates to science fiction because in sci fi movies and video games characters are often put in cyrostasis capsules that |
